Host Boards

Our mission is to bring fresh expertise and diversity of thought to startup boards today, and to build a pipeline of future independent directors of tomorrow. All with the greater purpose of propelling New Zealand’s tech startup eco-system forward.

As a baseline, our Host Boards get the point of the program and our mission. They are:

• Passionate about nurturing the next generation of independent board directors.

• Keen to create value through thought diversity.

• Welcoming of new expertise in a relevant vertical, sector or subject matter.

• Willing to commit a board member as a governance champion for an Observer.

What Makes a Great Host Board?

There are no hard and fast rules for what makes a great Host Board. That said, there are a few things that we think are strong indicators for one below.

• A validated business model with signs of market traction. Ideally, you’re at the point of doing business.

• Well funded and resourced, ideally from external parties.

• Established board of directors, who are already meeting frequently.

• Solid policies, systems and procedures for board governance in place.

It all boils down to whether your startup can provide a suitable learning environment for an Observer, along with being ready to benefit from an Observer’s perspective.
